For the months of July and August, PCL staff will be focusing on the Core Competency of Re silence. This competency is about not giving up when times are tough, its about coming back in to support someone even when they are challenging you, and using all of our skills and abilities to provide the best possible service, even when things are not going our way. There are several popular movies that teach us about resilience including “The Blind Side” and “Finding Nemo” If you get a chance to view these movies either for the first time, or again, watch the characters to see how they exhibit resilience. For example, staying positive under pressure, facing the judgmental people in their lives (Michael in the Blind Side) or facing their fears (Marlin in Nemo) or by staying true to values and living in the moment (Leigh Anne and Dory). At PCL, our staff show resilience in many ways and we have so many great examples of times when staff have stuck it through even when they were feeling challenged. I am sure that people would like to be appreciated for times when they have shown resilience so, everyone, get out those Core Competency Postcards and share them with a co-worker today.
A Poem:
“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, when the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile but you have to sigh, when care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must but never quit!
Life is queer, wit is twists and turns, as everyone of us sometimes learns, and many a failure turns about when he might have won, if he’d stuck it out.
stick to your task, though the pace seems slow, you may succeed with one more blow. Success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and you can tell how close you are, it may be near whe it seems afar, so stick to the fight when you are hardest hit — its when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.
