Keep reading for some special events and activities planned for this coming year.Parents for Community Living has entered into an exciting partnership with Magnus Mode, a new company started by a dynamic young woman, Nadia Hamilton, who has an autistic brother. She has created an application used on a smart phone or tablet to gain independent living skills tailored to the specific needs of the user. The information and launch party for this is being held on January 20th and we are looking forward to a promising partnership and excellent and fun learning opportunity for those we support. As part of this partnership PCL is purchasing 20 one year memberships for the people we support to try out the application and purchasing tickets for individuals and support staff and families to attend three exciting upcoming Centre in the Square events where those with the application will test their skills and enjoy are musical production.
As well, PCL has been selected again by the KIn Club of Woolwich Township to be a recipient of funds raised in their Grand River Amazing Race. As part of this PCL will have teams competing and raising fundraising dollars and provide some volunteers for the day. The details are just beginning to become available, check out their website for more information and “May the Odds be ever, in your favour”. http://www.grandriveramazingrace.ca/
Our new recreation and day program is up and running 4 days per week at the Core Lifestyle and Recreation Complex. The staff and instructors there have great physical and mental activities going on throughout the day to keep people engaged and having fun.
The construction has begun at our new home on Forestlawn and the ladies are getting very excited about moving to their new home. Along with this we are making preparations for the Casey home to have some renovations done to welcome four new children into the PCL community. Of course this will mean some staffing changes across PCL as staff take on new roles and new staff join the team. It is a very exciting time.
