Well, its about time i got back to updating the bytes. It was an incredibly busy summer and so far it shows no signs of stopping. PCL underwent a Compliance Review with the Ministry of Community and Social Services the week of September 8th and i am very proud to say that we came through with flying colours, A heart felt thank you and congratulations to all the staff who put in some extra time to ensure that we had everything in place for this inspection.
We celebrated the decade birthdays of Anthony K., Laura G. and Doug O with a Mexican Fiesta Theme on September 22nd at Christ Lutheran Church. The food that the staff from the homes prepared was delicious and everyone had a really good time. A major thank you to Sonya M., and Sue K for helping set up and clean up and for Julio R and John C. who also hung around at the end and helped with the clean up. A big thanks as well to Diana D. who made some delicious cupcakes and a special cake each for the birthday celebrants.
Once again this year PCL is participating in the United Way KW and Area 2015 campaign, we will be asking for voluntary small donations at our upcoming staff meetings and training’s. Our goal this year is to raise $200.00 from these events.
On Sunday October 4, 2015, a PCL team will be participating in the CIBC run for the Cure in honour of Donna L. If you have not done so already, please go to the CIBC run for the cure webesite and make a donation to any member of the “Donnas Deputies” team!
We are very fortunate to have some fabulous families and friends of PCL who have donated and/or helped out in a variety of ways over the year. We would like to recognize David S. for building shelves in the Stanwood garage, Nate O for general handyman work at Blueridge and Gary H and David O for trimming the bushes at Blueridge. We thank Kathleen S. and Lori C. for assisting with the gardens at our Westheights and Casey homes and to Gary B. for keeping the gardens at Malabar looking great and for putting together a couple of new barbecues for both Malabar and Crimson. We also thank the sisters of Veronica C. for a donation to cover the cost of alarming the doors at the Stanwood home. I know that many staff go above and beyond on a regular basis, but i would just like to mention our very own Wendy B. who singlehandedly has painted the garage and front door of Crimson and who is getting new shutters and painting them to match as well. We also want to thank the Sherman’s for donating a trampoline for the children to play on at Casey.
For our staff team:
There are several training events planned for the fall. CPI refreshers, Introduction to Core Competencies and a big staff retreat day set of November 16th. The theme of our retreat day is MIND, BODY AND SOUL and it should be an informative, motivational and inspiring day. Our keynote speaker is Patsy Marshall, a well known Rotarian in the community , teacher and motivational speaker. The registration information for the day will be out the week of October 5/15
