On Monday November 16th we hosted and participated in a staff retreat focusing on our Mind, Body and Soul. We were very happy to have an excellent speaker Patsy Marshall talk to us in the morning about how our thoughts can influence our attitude and our days, positive thoughts bring positive days and the same thing happens with negative thoughts. She reminded us to engage in self nurturing activities and to enjoy ourselves and our vocation. She taught us that in order for people to be happy at work three things are required: 1. They must be fit for it. 2. They must not do too much of it. and 3. They must have a sense of success in it. (John Ruskin 1851)
Patsy spoke to the fact that Limitations are merely opportunities to grow. Like stepping stones to success. Patsy shared a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson which i have shared below
How do you measure success, to laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, garden patch, a redeemed social condition, or a job well done: To know even when other life has breathed easier because you have lived —
this is success.
We enjoyed some awesome fun during the day, reviewing the Core Competencies and creating songs or poems that reflect the competencies and how we feel about PCL. Based on the feedback, i think everyone had an excellent day and we have some amazing videos to share from the event. I will send them around to the houses. Here are some photos of some of the creative and brilliant PCL staff team! It was wonderful to see everyone just up and dancing and having a great time, getting rid of all that day to day stress that bogs us down.
This is one of the Core Comp Poems from the team of Diana D., Dianne H, Katie L., Sara V., Heidi F., and Amber P.
