Summer is rolling to an end her at PCL and it has been a very busy one for certain. Many individuals we support went on vacation or enjoyed trips and day trips supported by PCL staff and/or their families. This year seemed to be the year of Niagara Falls, as not one but three of the homes supported by PCL enjoyed some vacation time there and of course a few ladies spent a great weekend at Elvisfest once again. As well, several individuals enjoyed day trips to Ripleys Aquarium, the zoo, the beach, Playdium Mississauga, and even a Lady GaGa concert. One of the homes spent a week camping at the Pinery in Grand Bend, roughing it in nature. Of course, others enjoyed some time away with family for their vacation.
This week we celebrated 25 years of PCL at our annual family picnic. We had a wonderful time with great food and music. Thank you very much to the parents and members who volunteered and made a wonderful event for those we support and their families and friends. Special thanks to Ed Koenig,Glen Soulis, Gordon Olgivie and Ashley Giles for the fantastic music for us to clap our hands and dance to. In honour of PCL many of the parents and members have been working diligently on a book celebrating the first 25 years of Parents for Community Living, this book was spearheaded by the parent and members committee of PCL and after much hard work by many dedicated volounteers, and careful editing by Ed, it has been published and is available for a minimal cost of $10.00 through the PCL main office
Still to come is our AGM in September where we will also be celebrating 25 years of service. With September comes our annual Fire Inspections by the City of Waterloo, there have been many changes to the fire code and responsibilities this past year and we are working diligently with both Kitchener and Waterloo Fire Departments to ensure that the homes PCL operates are as safe as possible for those who live in them.
PCL will be participating at a community event at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on September 11th and we welcome three students who are completing their placements with our agency over the next few months. Two students from the Medix school and one from St. Jerome s College.
