Monarch’s very own Emily W. was not only nominated once, but four times by her co-workers and her supervisor. I will share all of those stories in this weeks superhero update. The stories were submitted by Tia M., Ashley S., Tracy G. and Thea K. Wow, Emily is truly a superhero on the Monarch Team.
My story about Monarch’s very own “SUPER EMILY” by Ashley S.
There once was a little home found on Monarch place in a little village called Waterloo. In this home there were many great people who worked there supernatural strengths to make other peoples lives enriched ans supported. In this home however, was a stand out girl with the one particular strength of CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING. This girl was known to her fellow super team as “SUPER EMILY” **cue superhero music** Super Emily had the impossible power of always creating a solution before a problem even took place! Super Emily had the incredible ability to see the future and be one step ahead.
One time Super Emily was training one of Monarch’s newest super members and had to be in 3 places at the same time. She worried that her superhero strength wouldn’t give her the power to complete such and impossible task and still successfully work with our newest recruit, but she miraculously planned the entire day, on the evening before. Super Emily arranged for pick ups/drop offs, appointments, goal plan activities and made sure all those supported were happy. She was able to do everything she had to do, all the while influencing and educating her new shadow. It was like watching a hurricane of power from the outside. At the end of the day, Super Emily still had a smile on her face as her team cheered her on! Super Emily, with all her kindness, problem solving skills and initiative is the heart and soul of the Monarch team. Hip Hip Hooray!

On a quiet street called Monarch Place, you can hear the laughter of friendship as you walk up the drive way. But, sometimes, when you least expect it chaos ensues! Suddenly what began as a calm morning feels like an impossible feat. You need eight legs just to get everyone showered, dressed and out the door on time! THen you have to get to this appointment.. and that one too! Then an unexpected change of plans, and your whole schedule is altered. On no! What to do?
Call Emily! (if she is not already on her way). She arrives within moments with a smile on her face. She comes prepared to leap into action. There is something strangely magical about that girl.. Emily can do what seems impossible all in one day. Showers, breakfast, van run, appointment, groceries, van run, more appointments and more van runs. Emily turns it all into a fun-filled day for everyone involved! If you look closely you will find smiles on each persons face as Emily generates enjoyable activities. Did I mention that she gets hew own work done too? Conflict? Don’t worry. Emily’s creativity gets everyone collaborating and forgetting their problems. Not feeling well? Emily knows short cuts to the hospital, and she alwasys comes prepared with exact change for paring meters. Feeling Down? Emily will have you laughing in a heartbeat.
At the end of the day, when everyone is tucked back into bed, Emily quietly says goodnight with a smile on her face, knowing that she will be back again tomorrow. If you keep an eye on the staff, they might be working on another compliment card to add to the core competencies board with the name Emily written at the top!
Emily is my HERO – by Thea Kurzatz
I would like to nominate Emily W. for advocating for others, creative problem solving and decision making, resilience, strategic thinking and resource management.
Once Emily was home in bed asleep with her husband. After working a long shift the night before Emily was enjoying her sleep, dreaming of sunny beaches, pina-coladas and suddenly she was woken up by a phone call. She looked at the alarm, the time said 5:00 am. Emily picked up her phone , to hear a voice on the other end saying trouble. Emily jumped out of bed and into her van, she drove as fast as she could and using her superpowers turned a 40 minute drive into 20. Emily got to work and thought quick on her feet. She took a troubled individual to the hospital. No questions asked she knew what to do in a flash. She encountered some troubles but worked her best to make things go smoothly, she was put to the test. Emily was tired and drained but she never let it show, she kept the person safe and until she was taken care of. Emily came back to the house with the healed person right beside her, she took care of paperwork too. WE could not have done it without her.!
Emily Above and Beyond – by Tracy G.
One of the individuals supported at Monarch became quite ill very quickly and could hardly move. Emily took the initiative to rush her to the hospital and stayed with her much longer than her shift required until they found out what was wrong and she was taken care of. Emily arrived back at Monarch around midnight, having worked almost 18 hours to help out this lady. This truly displays dedication and caring and she always puts the needs of those supported before her own needs. She uses good self control when dealing with challenging situations and always takes the time to debrief with the individual supported and her co-workers after a challenging event.
