We are pleased to announce that Bea Borsato who has been a dedication volunteer with the Casey Ladies for several years now has won a Volunteer Impact Award , specifically the Caring Action Award for Hands on Action. Earlier this year, the staff and ladies supported nominiated Bea for this award by sharing stories of how she has made a difference in their lives. Please see below the nomination letters and photos that were submitted in her honour.
Bea has invested 5 years of support to the ladies, volunteering at the Casey House. Without fail, Bea comes every Tuesday afternoon to do crafts with the ladies. She plans out, and talks with the ladies about which craft they would like to do, purchases all of the supplies needed and comes ready to get crafty, talk, laugh, and spend time with the ladies for the afternoon. The craft group has expanded, and Bea welcomed another PCL home to join them each Tuesday to participate in craft time. Outside of the Tuesday craft time, and Thursday Weight loss group, Bea is constantly taking the ladies out for coffee, popping in for a visit just to say hi, and has in the past participated in the ladies Life Goal Plans that were being created. Bea never misses a birthday, and always makes sure that the ladies feel special and spoiled on their special day by taking them out for a meal and buying them their favourite item. There is no doubt that Bea goes above and beyond in all areas of being a volunteer for Parents for Community Living. You will never find one of the Casey ladies calling Bea their “volunteer”, but always “friend”. Not only has Bea impacted the lives of those living at Casey, but she has dramatically influenced the lives of the staff members, the family members, and other individuals in care in the agency. Bea has become a friend to the staff members working at the group home as well as the ladies. In the past year she has celebrated with staff members during engagements and weddings, and has attended funerals for those who have lost family members. She is a support and a friend to all of those she meets, and is valued and appreciated beyond measure.
Bea has become a comfort zone for these ladies, and somebody that they completely trust and can rely on. For these ladies, Bea is somebody that they can depend on for anything. They know that she is reliable, and is a woman of her word, and they know that they are always a priority in Bea’s life. It takes somebody very special to light up the room the minute she walks in.
Because of these efforts, and the incredible woman that she is, Bea has earned not only the award for “2015 Volunteer Impact award”, but also the respect and gratitude of those for whom and with whom she serves. Parents for Community Living, the Casey residents and their families, as well as all of the staff members who are fortunate enough to spend time with Bea are forever impacted. As those who Bea has inspired and motivated, we strongly urge you, and Thank you for considering our friend for the 2015 Volunteer Impact Award.
