It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of a wonderful lady Veronica C. on December 14, 2105. Veronica has been part of the PCL family since 1995 and she touched the hearts of many staff, families and friends throughout those years. There is also joy with this in knowing that Veronica is no longer in pain and she is with her family and friends who have gone before her. Veronica was diagnosed Alzheimers disease a few years ago and it finally claimed her life this week. She was supported through the end of life process at her home by a very caring and resilient staff team and very supportive housemates, Barb, Janet and Tom. Although it was very difficult for everyone at times, we were able to grant Veronica’s and her family’s wish that she die at home surrounded by those who loved her and who she loved.
We would like to thank all of the PSWs who helped us out over the past months and the CCAC Palliative nursing team, and doctors, who were amazing in getting us the resources and supports we needed. We would also like to thank Hospice Waterloo Region for their training and support and ongoing grief support as we work our way through saying good bye to a wonderful lady. We also thank Veronica’s sisters Jenny and Elspeth for there support and confidence in our ability to provide the care that Veronica needed in the last few months of her life.
There will be a celebration of the life of Veronica in January with her family and friends. Details for this will follow.
